Everyday Makeup Header

When it comes to everyday make up I love to look fresh and awake! I tend to stick to a shimmery pale eye and a nude lip, with my face looking flawless and highlighted! I like my make up to look ‘done’ but I avoid from making it look too heavy for my day time look! I pretty much do a similar look everyday but to mix it up I often change my lip colour or add a gold/bronze eye!

I will tell you how I achieved the look in the picture above. It is the look I wore yesterday, but it is pretty much the same look I wear everyday.

Preparing the Skin

I always moisturise before applying my make up, I tend to do this about 20 minutes before because otherwise your face is too hydrated and the foundation can slip off your skin. Moisturising before putting on your make up will ensure that the skin is hydrated and will also make the application easier. I have struggled for a long time finding a moisturiser that suits my skin type, I kept on breaking out and I stopped moisturising for a while and my break outs didn’t happen anymore, so I realised that it was the moisturiser which was causing it! My skin was getting too oily and it would cause the spots! I then discovered Neutrogena’s Visibly Clear Oil Free Moisturiser and it works a treat, it doesn’t break me out and it smells absolutely amazing, it is pink grapefruit scented. I definitely recommend this if you think that moisturiser gives you spots too!

Foundation

Even for my everyday makeup I like my face to look flawless so I opt for a fuller coverage foundation which isn’t dewy, I wrote all about my current Foundation in my review of it, you can read about it here. So at the moment, the foundation I’m using is the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation.

Eyebrows

I always do my eyebrows and eyes after my foundation to let the base dry. Eyebrows are definitely the make or break to any look! I think they’re probably one of the most important steps in your make up routine! Admittedly mine don’t look perfect every day but I try to make them look natural but darker and fuller so that they frame my face nicely. I use the MUA Eyebrow Powder and gel to set them.

Eyes

For a long time eyeshadow always scared me, I always saw people wearing it and it didn’t flatter them at all. But now I know the key to it is blending! For my everyday look I tend to stick to a neutral shade all over my lid, Yesterday I used MUA’s ‘Undress Me Too’ Palette which is a dupe for the Naked 2 Palette. I used the shade ‘Shy’, which is a pretty, shimmery, champagne colour, I love light eyeshadow because it really makes me look more awake! Definitely something I need on an everyday basis.

For my crease colour I use the colour ‘Naked 2′ from the Naked Basics Palette. This is my perfect crease colour, not too dark but just enough to define the eye and make it look wider and more hollow. The key for this step is to just blend until the product looks soft and natural.

On a everyday basis I just tend to leave the shadows like this, just stay very neutral and pretty. I put the same champagne colour under my brow bone to highlight the brow area and make the brows look more defined and arched.

I will then go for a thin winged eyeliner, I find it really hard not to do this stage, whenever I don’t wear eyeliner I really don’t feel myself, I never feel as though my make up looks ‘done’ enough without it! I have done a winged eyeliner for as long as I can remember, there is a knack to make it look perfect, but just keep on going and I promise, you will get it.  I use the Natural Collections Eyeliner (no link online – definitely sold in stores at Boots though). It is so cheap – £1.99 and I have been using it for years and I don’t think I’d ever try something different, it works so well, so easy to apply and stays dark and in place all day.

I will then coat my lashes with Natural Collections Mascara, the same goes for this, it is amazing! I like my lashes to be very full and thick but not too clumpy so I do about 3 coats of this mascara.

I do my bottom eyelashes and under eye area after I have done my concealer, so I will come back to that!

Concealer

Concealing is probably my favourite part of doing my make up! I think once it’s done you just look so much better, it is like magic! I opt for a concealer which is a few shades lighter than my skin, because I don’t just use it to conceal but also to highlight. At the moment I am using a real cheapy from MUA which isn’t amazing but I haven’t come round to buying another one! I put it in a ‘V’ under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, in between my brows and on my cupids bow and chin.

Powder

After my concealer I always set the areas which I have concealed to stop it from creasing and to make sure it lasts all day! It also stops you from looking greasy so it’s definitely a step that shouldn’t be neglected. I am currently using Maybelline’s Fit Me Powder, it was 3 for 2 when I bought my foundation you see!

Bronzer

I could never not do this step! Contouring, along with concealing is my ‘must do’ step! Contouring makes everyone look 10x better, it makes you cheek bones look hollow and it also slim out your face (if you do it right). To contour I bronze the hollows of my cheeks, my temples and along the sides of my nose. The bronzing powder I’m using at the moment is by Maxfactor, in the shade ‘Bronze’. I have used this for a while, and the colouring suits my skin tone, but I definitely think there are more pigmented bronzers out there.

Blush

I then apply blush on the apples of my cheeks, I feel like this just adds some colour back into your face after you have concealed. The blush I am wearing in the picture is by Clinque in the shade ‘Iced Lotus’, it is the prettiest pink.

Highlight

A lot of people would skip this from their everyday routine but it is so quick and easy and it makes a big difference! I use MUA’s Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter, it is a beautiful pink colour! It doesn’t come out too pink of the skin, which is good, but it adds a subtle shimmer on your cheek bone and looks beautiful.

Bottom Eye

I always put a brown shade under my eye, usually the colour ‘Faint’ from the Naked Basics and then blend it out with the same colour that I put in my crease, ‘Naked 2′. This really opens your eye and makes it pop! I will then coat my bottom lashes with the same mascara mentioned above.

Lastly, Lips

On an everyday basis I usually stick to a nude lip, I never get bored of it! Today I am wearing 710 Sultry Sand by Maybelline. I don’t think this is the nicest lipstick, I find it to be a bit cakey and it flakes off my lips! It is also maybe a bit too nude, and ‘foundation lips’ comes to mind! Over the top I’m wearing a brown coloured lipgloss from KIKO, in the shade 216.

I hope this post has been useful, and inspired you to try a new makeup look! Being a student, I love the drugstore, most of the products I use in my everyday routine are from the drugstore, actually most of the products I own are. The higher end ones like the Naked Palette and the Clinique blush have been bought for me as presents. I want you to know that you can look amazing even on a tight budget.

I’ve also been thinking about doing a makeup look with step by step pictures, would you be interested in this?
